Support to the Ministry of Agriculture – Armenia
Armenia
The European Commission
The Government of Armenia
The overall objective of the project is to support for Armenian Veterinary Services and the Food Safety Enforcement Agencies aiming at raising animal health and food safety standards, as well as their enforcement. Agriculture in Armenia is the most important sector of the national economy. The Crisis, which broke out on of the beginning of 1990s and was caused by the dramatic earthquake in 1988 and bloody conflict with Azerbaijan, contributed to serious decreasing of the livestock as well as to downfall of food production and commerce standards. Current Government of Armenia makes strong efforts to improve production and selling conditions through the legislation approximation to EU rules, laboratories modernisation, dissemination of the food safety and food hygiene ideas, as well as capacity building for Veterinary Services and Enforcement Agencies staff.
