Delegation of the European Commission in South Africa

The European Union (EU) has provided substantial financial and technical support for the development of the Urban Sector in South Africa by support the South African Government’s Urban Development Framework and Urban Renewal Programme since 1995. The aim is promote the integration of cities and accelerate delivery of social and economic opportunities as well as supporting community participation and strengthening local institutions. The Urban Sector Network (USN) is a national of nine NGO’s providing development expertise and support to the urban poor to enable them to gain access to resources and skills in order to implement sustainable development projects. The USN affiliates work in six of SA’s nine provinces and their key activities focus on low cost housing, community development and promotion of local economic development.
