Sustainable tourism and ecological issues are of high importance to Aqaba for example demonstrated by the prospering diving scene which is becoming ever more attractive. There has been ample discussion on how to develop a quality and viable tourism industry in Aqaba. Key strategies for the future must include initiatives on how to encourage environmentally friendly practices in both the private and public sector. The objectives of the tourism sector in developing sustainable tourism can be referred to the three main elements of sustainability; environment, economy and people: •To sustain a sound environment, to safeguard the recreational quality of natural and man-made landscape and to integrate natural, cultural and human environments. •To promote and sustain the competitive quality and efficiency of the tourism business; and To create satisfactory social conditions for tourists and the local population. •To create satisfactory social conditions for tourists and the local population.
