Project description:

The global objective of the project is to contribute to the preparation of the target project “Support to Sustainable regional Development”. Specific objectives are as follows: • To organise the preparatory co-ordination for designing a financial instrument for SD, • To assist in preparing the ToR for the target project. The project will complement and build on the results of previous projects on sustainable regional development. It should continue EC assistance to Ukraine in formulating a national policy on sustainable development, assist Ukraine in establishing a regional Fund to ensure investment in the area and should further assist Ukraine in designing an implementing Action Plan (alternatively a Platform for Action). The project will to a large extend build on results of the AP 2004 and AP 2005 “Sustainable Local Development” projects. The project will also aim to jointly operate with other IFIs (international financial institutions). This project will adopt a comprehensive approach at strategy, instrumental and implementation levels. The specific objectives are the following: 1. To strengthen the Ukrainian authorities’ capacity in the fields of policy formulation and decision-making process, and 2. To assist the Ukrainian authorities in designing an action plan implementing such an approach for sustainable development and contribute to its implementation.
