The requested services regard the implementation of an environmental assessment and monitoring in the area of Gerdec affected by the explosion of 15.03.2008 in the military plant for the dismantling of ammunitions. The explosion generated a hit wave that shocked the whole surrounding area up to distance of 20 km from the site creating a 20 m deep crater. The explosion resulted with losses of human lives and damages to houses, businesses, animals and environment. A first assessment of the environmental pollution made immediately after the explosions indicated that: 1. Air was not polluted for the measures parameters (. 2. Drinking water quality is not affected by the explosion. 3. Surface water in the area of the crater revealed the presence of TNT. nitrites and iron. 4. Soil inside and in the vicinity of the crater shows presence of TNT. RDX. nitrocellulose. nitro—glvcerine and heavy metals. 5. There were no signs of radioactive pollution. Global objective Improve the living conditions of local population in the affected area through implementation of the appropriate measures tbr the reduction of negative consequences caused by explosion. Specific objective(s) Assess the likely levels of environmental contamination in and around the security area and prepare an environmental, human health and food monitoring plan including an assessment of the needs of the governmental laboratories for monitoring equipment
