In August 2013 EPRD has successfully accomplished a 2-year-project in Burkina Faso concerning Linking Relief, Rehabilitation and Development (LRRD) and Food Security.
In July 2010, heavy rains fall in Burkina Faso in the regions of the East, North Central and in the Sahel, which resulted in a flood that destroyed major infrastructure (dams, roads, etc..) and assets of livelihoods (barns, fields, etc..), and caused the loss of human lives. The government of Burkina Faso and the international community have therefore decided to take action to bring assistance to affected populations. The European Union, through the European Community Humanitarian Office (ECHO) and the Directorate General for Development and Cooperation (DEVCO), have endeavoured to strengthen linking between relief, rehabilitation and development, and to support the resilience of affected populations as these two themes are indispensable today to deal with recurring crises facing the Sahel.
To concretize these efforts, the EU launched a project the aim of which was to ensure the capitalization of projects funded under the Programme LRRD-REPI 2010 while contributing to policy dialogue in response to natural disasters (floods), and climate risk management in connection with rural development strategies and food and nutrition security in Burkina Faso. In the framework of this project, every half a year EPRD’s expert diagnosed the situation in the country and on that basis has prepared a comprehensive evaluation report accompanied by informative leaflets and a film aiming at helping the stakeholders to capitalize the knowledge gained throughout the project implementation.
